Volunteers Make it Happen

Festival Legend Sande Pfalzgraf

The Burke Centre Festival, a local institution for over a quarter of a century, brings in thousands of visitors each year. A driving force behind this success has been "super volunteer" Sande Pfalzgraf, a long-time Burke Centre resident until 2008. Sande first become involved in the festival in 1978, the year after the first festival was held. She served as Festival Chairman/Liaison for nine years until 1989, then again from 2001 to 2008. Thanks in large part to Sande, Burke Centre has been able to build and maintain its vibrant community spirit. Congratulations to Sande for being named Lady Fairfax in 2006, a prestigious honor bestowed by Fairfax County each year.

Volunteers who work at least a two-hour shift leading up to or during the festival will get one chance to enter volunteer-only drawings for great prizes. A four-hour shift would give someone two chances and so on. Volunteers do not have to be present to win. CLICK HERE TO ACCESS 2010 VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP FORM!

The ability to offer enhanced prizes for volunteer-only drawings is due to the generosity of sponsors like local contractor, REMODEL AMERICA, a primary contributor to this program for three years! Prize drawings offer a great way to thank people for getting involved. Many two-hour shifts will be available on either Saturday, September 11 or Sunday, September 12, 2010. Sign up to accept tickets at one of the many rides (ponies, moonbounces, slide, hay ride, etc.), help post signs, help coordinate volunteers, assist with shuttle buses, info booth, etc.

Many thanks to Luanne Smith and Randy Bissell for serving as the past Festival Volunteer and Entertainment Coordinators, respectively. Contact Nancy Sherman at (703) 978-2928 to participate. The festival would not succeed without community volunteers. Thanks for your support!
